LaMotte® Air Microbe Hunter™ Activity Kit

$93.00

Description

A fun and safe way to bring STEM-based learning into your classroom!
Grades 5–10. This complete STEM-based curriculum guides students through the culturing and presumptive identification of common microbes on innovative LaMotte® BioPaddles®. Working in teams, students perform air sampling to explore and identify microbes encountered daily in their school surroundings and predict which environmental factors affect airborne microbe growth. During their investigations, students apply STEM concepts to design passive sampling techniques for collecting airborne microbes. This develops critical-thinking skills and emphasizes engineering as a key component.

Kit includes teacher's manual, student guide, and presentations on CD-ROM; BioPaddles® to perform the first 2 activities; and magnifying lenses. Additional paddles (item #653579) may be purchased to perform additional activities in the teacher's manual. Kit also includes access to the free LaMotte® BioPaddles® Colony ID™ Lite App to compare "unknown" microbe growth on the BioPaddle® against a library of photos.

    Topics include:
  • Presumptive identification of airborne microbes
  • Bioaerosols
  • Cloud chemistry
  • Precipitation
  • Bacterial ice nucleators
  • Airborne diseases
    STEM activities include:
  • How Did Fungus Get into King Tut's Tomb?
  • Dust and Dust Bunnies
