Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 4th graders were so engaged. My class didn't think these beetles would pull very many pennies. Most of the kids guessed 4 pennies would be the maxium amount the beetles could pull. Can you imagine the surprise on the kids face when one BessBug pulled 30 pennies! This is such an easy way to get your students engaged in a science lesson. This fit right into our Picture Perfect Lesson that I was using "Bugs!" An added bonus is the chart that you can create using all your data. Wow! Is all I can say. I even took my Bessbugs to a workshop this summer and the adults were amazed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful addition to our classroom! The Bess Beetles have been an excellent addition to our curriculum. I am a Ph.D. entomologist working as a science center educator. I purchased the Bess Beetles for use in our classes as examples or live arthropods that are large and easy for our students to interact with. All 12 beetles arrived healthy and in good condition. They have been a big hit! We have used them to demonstrate characteristics of an insect, for the penny-pull activity, and when we do sound classes we let the student hear them squeak and talk about the different ways animals make sounds. They are effective and something the students don't see everywhere else (like the ubiquitous hissing cockroach). Plus, very young children can easily hold them. I love these beetles!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from sweet but pricey The bessbugs were awesome, but didnt do much, and not much info could be squeezed from thier small realized niche.
