An ultra-safe, 2-step staining system in which a small amount of stain is added to the agarose and buffer prior to running the gel. This causes DNA bands to become faintly visible during electrophoresis. After electrophoresis, simply stain as usual to enhance visualization of bands. CarolinaBLU™ stain gives better results than methylene blue because of increased sensitivity, reduced background, and reduced staining time (stains in 15 to 20 minutes).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't stain small bands I've tried using this instead of ethidium bromide. I really wanted it to work because it's so much less toxic. It might work well for applications where you are able to load TONS of DNA on the gel, but for smaller fragments or situations where there isn't necessarily a huge amount of DNA, I haven't been able to get any interpretable results. I've been trying to PCR amplify things in the 600 range and this stain just hasn't been effective. I've tried all the staining methods listed in the instructions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from the stain works Electrophoresis visualization of course works better with ethidium bromide. However, I am having great success using this stain as an alternative. It helps to stain the gels maybe for an hour or two, and then destain in deionized water over night. The bands are clearly visible. We add 10 or 15 microliters of DNA digest per lane.
