A unique innovation, this culture medium provides all the ready-to-use nutrition your caterpillars require to grow. There is no food to mix. Simply divide the medium into smaller containers, such as the Culture Cup Set (item # 144068). Caterpillars will eat the culture medium supplied in each culture vessel. One cup of medium feeds 33 larvae; 2 cups feed up to 80 larvae. Each cup contains 8 oz. of medium. With instructions.

Note: Culture cups not included; refrigerate medium for up to 2 weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The kids are excited! We've got baby caterpillars are definitely growing! The kids are so excited. We've gotten to see the eggs laid & hatch. This is a much better process than buying the caterpillars through the bug ville thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Painted Lady Culture Medium I didn't recieve any instructions on how to use it or how often to give it. This is the first time my class did butterflies with eggs instead of larva. So I was a little confused as to how much to use and when to change it out. So far my guessing seems right as the caterpillars are growing well. I really like your company. Whenever I have had any issues with what I have recieved, the correspondence was quick and the reply was very kind and nice... like a friend was emailing. Thanks. I will do business with you many more times through the years.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cut the Cost for a Better Deal Cut the amount of food and lower the price. My butterflies laid eggs, I just wanted some food for the new caterpillars. I have ordered the plant twice and both times it died before the caterpillars were more than a inch. With nothing to feed on the caterpillars died too. I thought I would try the food. Only two caterpillars survived so I threw away most (over two thirds). Money wasted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Saver! I didn't have enough plants for my caterpillars to feed on so I ordered the artificial diet and it was great because then they ate it and they had enough food so that they wouldn't die. I have so many though that it is really costly to raise alot on this diet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a charm! If you've ever hatched butterfly larvae during the "off" season, you know that there's a serious lack of host plants available for the Painted Lady caterpillars. They eat hollyhocks, and sometimes can be persuaded to eat mallow leaves. This culture medium saves the worry about what to feed picky eaters because the caterpillars go to town on this artificial diet. Although larvae that have been habituated to leaves will sometimes accept the artificial diet, it takes them a little while to get the hint. It seemed that my best results were obtained when I started and raised the larvae on either 100% leaves or 100% artificial diet.
