Frequently Asked Questions About Software from Carolina

What is a lab pack?
A lab pack is multiple copies (usually 10 or less) of the same software for use on multiple computers.

What is a site license?
A site license of a software product is an expanded version of the lab pack designed for libraries, computer labs, and other locations where large numbers of computers are installed. For example, if you want to install the same software on 20 computers in your computer lab, you need a site license of 20. Prices are based on the size of the site license.

What is a site license agreement?
It is a legal document that may accompany a site license software product. The agreement asks you to indicate how many computers the product is installed on and to agree to use the product in one building only. The person at your institution responsible for copyright law compliance should sign the agreement. We ask that you do not return a site license version of software unless the software is defective.

What is a network license?
A network version of a software product is installed on your file server and distributed on request to other computers in the network. Before ordering, you should ask your system administrator if your network has the capacity to handle the anticipated number of users. This product may come with a network agreement form asking you to confirm the number of computers on your network. The form is a legal document and should be signed by the person at your institution responsible for copyright law compliance. We ask that you do not return a network version of software unless the software is defective.
