Inquiry Methodology

Inquiries in Science™ and
The Learning Cycle

The learning cycle is a research-based instructional method recognized as an effective instructional tool, especially in science education. In the learning cycle, students focus on and explore a topic, gather and process additional information about the underlying concept, and then apply their understanding of the concept to a similar situation. These steps may overlap or even be repeated. Inquiries in Science™ has been developed around the learning cycle of focus, explore, explain, and apply.

Inquiries in Science™ and
Guided Inquiry

The most effective way for students to understand the scientific process is through guided-inquiry instruction. Through lab activities, students use the scientific process to gain knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts, ideas, and events. Instruction based on guided inquiry creates a rich learning environment by engaging students in the scientific process and helping them internalize scientific concepts by doing science.

Inquiries in Science™ kits facilitate this guided-inquiry approach by utilizing teacher-directed activities and student-centered investigations to help students grasp important science concepts by using the scientific process.
