The tables in my classroom are equipped with a huge selection of wooden and plastic science puzzles. One puzzle—"DNA"—is comprised of cubes students must position so that each side shows 4 colors. A second choice is Carolina’s DNA Puzzle Kit. Carolina’s Chromosome Simulation Set, with beads that show chromosome simulation, is yet another option to place in the tables’ green trays. When you have a few extra minutes at the end of class, puzzles can keep the students engaged. Students who solve 4 of the 5 puzzles on their desks receive prizes (e.g., a hand boiler or a drinking bird)!
