TEACHER 2 TEACHER TIPS
Teacher Tip:
Small Whiteboards Help Gauge Student Understanding

I use small whiteboards as a quick way to formatively assess student understanding. For example, if I want students to work through a Punnett square—rather than having them do it on paper—I have them each do it on a whiteboard. Then I ask them all to hold theirs up so I can quickly assess how many students are on board and how many are not. Larger whiteboards work well for group activities. You can purchase class sets of whiteboards, markers, and erasers or get your local home improvement store to cut pieces of tile board to the size you want.
