Cooling Diagram for t-Butanol
Help students understand the relationship between energy and the phase
changes of a pure substance with this deceptively simple activity. The
equipment and lab skills required are modest, but students will need to
put on their thinking caps when it’s time to do the calculations. See
the link below for the full story.

Water: A Liquid That Can Take the Heat
Water has the ability to absorb a lot of heat and release it slowly over
time. This helps moderate coastal climates, and makes for some
attention-getting demos. The 2 we’ve chosen for you vividly illustrate
water's heat-absorbing ability and help students understand the concept.

Making Real-World Connections with Exothermic Reactions
MREs (meals ready to eat) are a staple for our armed forces in the
field. When these meals were first developed, a flameless method was
needed to heat them. Learn about the exothermic chemical reaction that
was harnessed to provide a safe, flameless device for heating these
meals. Click the link below to get cooking. |
Three Little Salts
When 3 seemingly identical white salts are dissolved in water, 3
strikingly different results occur. Use this simple experiment to teach
your students about thermochemistry, chemical and physical changes, and
to present a valuable safety lesson on working with chemicals. Just one
little click on the link below gets you started. |

Carolina's Virtual NSTA Experience
If you can’t experience our booth at the NSTA National Conference, you
can pay it a virtual visit. We’ll use our Facebook page to share videos from our
workshops, run contests, announce winners, and allow other educators to share
their experiences. Just "fan" us on Facebook before the fun begins on March 10,
2011. |
The 2011 Carolina™ Chemistry Catalog
You’ll find a balanced solution to all your chemistry needs in the 2011
Carolina™ Chemistry catalog. It features a comprehensive selection
of quality chemicals, kits, safety equipment, and other chemistry
resources. If you haven’t already requested your copy, you can do it now

Nylon Synthesis Demo
Our Nylon Synthesis Demonstration Kit allows you to combine 2 colorless liquids
to form a continuous polymer thread (the same material that’s used in clothing,
brush bristles, and more). In this video, you’ll see the kit demonstrated step
by step and learn about the chemistry behind the reaction. See it at the link
below.

A Picture-Perfect Setup
Once you have finished a lab station setup and verified everything is correct,
take a photo of it and display it at the station. When students complete the
station, have them reset it exactly as shown in the photo. This also makes it
easier for you to do a quick check. Save the picture for the next time you run
the lab. It will help you to remember things like consumables.
