Demonstrating Cellular Respiration and Fermentation
When students memorize the steps of the Krebs cycle and glycolysis, they
sometimes miss how those steps work together. Use this demonstration to
show the big picture of aerobic cell respiration (with germinating
seeds) and fermentation (produced by yeast). Follow the link for full
"how-tos."

Teaching the Calvin Cycle
Give your students an easier way to learn the abstract subject matter of
the Calvin cycle of photosynthesis. Rather than the usual approach of
providing students a long sequence of complicated reactions to show the
Calvin cycle, just follow the link provided below and discover 2
easier-to-understand methods.

Kids, Giraffes, and Neck Bones
How many bones are in a giraffe’s neck? Enough to get students really
interested in this activity to answer that question. While finding the
answer, they will fill out an activity sheet and use the Internet. Click

Care of Classroom Critters over Breaks
Living organisms may bring your classroom to life, but they won’t take
care of themselves if left alone while the 2-legged, upright-walking
organisms go on break. We offer some tips to make breaks and holidays
happy for you and your classroom critters. Click the link to learn about
these caring alternatives. |

Status Symbols
Recognizing when different groups in your lab need assistance is not always
obvious. To remedy that, I place a tabletop support stand, 1 medium-size paper
clamp, and 3 pieces of paper (red, yellow, and green) at each workstation.
During the lab, each group clips a piece of paper to the support stand to
indicate the group’s status. Red indicates that the group needs help
immediately, yellow that the group needs help soon or has a question, and green
that the group is doing great. This method makes it easy to see which group
needs help, without students having to hold up their hands or getting your
attention in other ways.
