Daphnia magna Culture Kit
Daphnia magna worked great, but they're hard to keep alive
Like the directions said, it was very difficult to keep this species of daphnia alive for very long. I had trouble keeping them alive for just a few days. The first shipment arrived with about an 80% mortality rate (apparently the plane had been held up for hours on the runway), but Carolina quickly replaced them and I had them here the next week. When I do this lab in the future, I will keep all of the daphnia in the containers which they are shipped in and do the lab within two days of the arrival date.

Arrived Alive and Swimming!
We received approximately 50 Daphnia in 2 different jars. They arrived in the middle of winter in freezing temperatures but Carolina Biological used a heating pack. We followed the directions that came with culture and we have a thriving community of Daphnia 3 weeks later with babies! They are very low maintenance.

Fascinating organism for experiments.
The visible body of the Daphnia magna allows students to view changes caused by environmental variables. For the ethanol experiment I recommend 3% instead of 1%.

This product comes complete with everything you need for your science educational project. The kit came with a instruction pamphlet that really helps get you started on set up and gave the project for my 7th grade grand daughter everything she needed to begin her experiment. I highly recommend this kit to anyone doing an experiment with Daphnia magna.
