Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for animal skeletal preparation This is a nice selection of the life stages of these carrion beetles. It takes awhile for the culture to increase in population but within 2 months of feeding (carrion or dog food) and a warm environment, the population increases enough to render a small mammal or bird carcass. You must be vigilant and constantly checking in on the rendering process as they might eat more of the skeleton than you want. They can be kept alive by feeding the culture dry dog food. Always keep a wet sponge or damp paper towel for moisture for all stages of the beetles. A moist environment also will help the beetles to process the animal parts easier as well.
