The wild-type, Oregon R strain of Drosophila is the standard "red eye" fruit fly. This culture is suitable as a parental strain, used along with one of the mutant strains to construct a heterozygous F1 generation and a subsequent F2 generation for study.
These wild-type flies are also appropriate for animal behavior studies.
Each culture vial contains approximately 2530 adult flies capable of producing over 50 offspring (12 per adult) over a span of 2 weeks, given proper care and environmental conditions.
