Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very useful but have to be careful when culturing I have used these miniature mutants several times for X-linked crosses with the white eyed mutants. The crosses work out fine and you can analyze the males in the F2 for the map distance between the two genes. If you culture these miniatures, however, you have to be aware that getting the balance of the right amount of water and media is not trivial. If the media gets even just a little bit soupy, these flies will drown. You have to err on the side of dry media first, then add water as you need to and always a little at a time. I've had times where everything seemed fine and a day later, there were a bunch of dead flies trapped in the top layer of the media.
