Grades 510. This complete STEM-based curriculum guides students through the culturing and presumptive identiﬁcation of common microbes on innovative LaMotte® BioPaddles®. Each paddle contains microbe-speciﬁc media enclosed in a sterile vial. Working in teams, students perform surface sampling to explore and identify microbes encountered daily in their school surroundings. During their investigations, students apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. The activities develop critical-thinking skills and emphasize engineering as a key component. Kit includes a CD of instructions and presentations, BioPaddles® to perform the first 2 activities, and magnifying lenses. Additional paddles may be purchased to perform the additional 3 main activities and the Going Further activities. Kit also includes access to the free LaMotte® BioPaddles® Colony ID™ Lite app to compare “unknown” microbe growth on the BioPaddle® against a library of photos.
