Leaded or unleaded? Ask the right question and get the right answer. Students perform accurate, simple, and nonhazardous tests for lead in soil they collect themselves. The quick, 3-step procedure allows for an accuracy reading of up to 100 parts per million (ppm). Simply fill the test vial with soil, add reagent, mix for 30 s, dip test strip in soil/reagent mixture, and wait. Within minutes a color change will occur on the test strip pad and the presence or absence of lead will be evident. Instructions and enough materials for 5 soil tests included.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Positive results I obtained positive results for locations tested: 2 backyards, school garden, organic vegetable garden. I find hard to believe that is possible. My mom ordered a different kit from another source to cross reference.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Clay soil affected indicator We live in the south and have very red soil. I believe we got false positives as a result. Only got a negative when using very brown potting soil. That fact made an inter sting point for the science fair project

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well I am a middle school science teacher. Our town used to house a lead oil refinery. We are testing soil around town and so far all strips have turned pink!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Expensive and does not work First of all the kit arrived without instructions included. However, customer service at Carolina rectified the situation immediately by emailing the instructions. The test strips seem not to change at all and I find it hard to believe that there would not be some amount of lead in the soil we are testing. The directions are easy to follow, but we will have to incorporate the question of the validity of the testing in the project report.
