Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hyalella azteca, not Gammarus Although it is not important to many people/educators, I received the wrong species of amphipod, which we checked with both morphological keys and genetic identification. While I wanted Gammarus species, I ended up getting Hyalella azteca... In the end I used this species anyways, but it is frustrating to consistently get misidentified species from Carolina Bio. Furthermore, they came with parasitic copepods which might have infected many other organisms in our lab. That said they were otherwise healthy and relatively cheap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from These amphipods were contaminated. The amphipods arrived with white swimming worms. I would like both of my amphipods colonies to be replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I've been using this product two years now and it never fails. Gammarus that arrive 2nd day look as good as ones shipped overnight. There are a lot of differences in size but I believe there is enough of them in each jar not to create a problem. I would recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Most were dead! I ordered two jars of Gammarus. When they arrived, I was surprised at how many were dead and how few live ones there were in the jars. Within a couple of hours, they were all dead. Very disappointed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing The website is extremely lacking when it comes to information on these. In fact there is basically no information whatsoever. I had to open live chat just to get answers about basic care. (Your live chat feature is great by the way, very helpful!) I was told they would get as big as 1cm and that my shipment would be mixed sizes, yet out of two orders, I didn't get a single specimen bigger than 2mm. They were all extremely small. I have no idea if they are even still in my aquarium. I assume they are buried in the gravel during the day, because apparently they are nocturnal (another detail the website failed to mention.) The guide to invertebrates that is included also had next to nothing about gammarus in it. Very disappointed by the extreme lack of information. I'm going to be much more cautious about ordering anything from this website in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long-lasting and easy to observe. I have maintained a small population of these amphipods for more than a year now. They are very low-maintenance, and are basically self-sustaining. I keep them in a small freshwater aquarium with a few different species of fresh water snails and some duckweed that I also purchased from CBS. I simply add a small amount of water each week that I keep in a gallon jug for a few days before pouring into the water. The amphipods are large enough for my students to view with the unaided eye. Several of my students from last year have come back to observe them. They are a nice introduction to ecosystems, and crustaceans. They even survived the summer in my three seasons room, with almost zero maintenance. I highly recommend them.
