Grade 9College. The 2 exercises in this kit allow students to investigate fundamental principles of digestion, osmosis, and diffusion. In the 1st exercise, students test the osmotic rates of urea, sucrose, and glucose solutions in the presence or absence of urease and invertase. This determines how the presence of the enzymes affects the osmotic rates of the solutions. In the 2nd exercise, students use m-cresol purple pH indicator to test for the presence of ammonia, an indication of hydrolysis of urea by urease. Different groups will test different solutions and then pool their data. For a class of up to 32 students working in pairs.
