"Travel through geologic time with this exploration of plant evolution. Students examine green algae, liverwort, Selaginella, fern, gymnosperm, and angiosperm living plant tissue. They look closely at slides of mycorrhizae, vascular tissue, stomata, and pollen to determine how plant adaptations contributed to the evolutionary success of terrestrial plants. Then students complete an activity using toluidine blue to observe differences in vascular tissue among living plants. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in groups of 3 or 4. Kit includes: Evidence of Evolution: Form Fits Function slide set, basic plant kingdom survey set, toluidine blue, magnifiers, single-edged razor blades, test tubes, dropping pipets, microscope slides, coverslips, and teacher’s manual and student guide."
