Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatly Exceeded My Expectations I absolutely love these! I am definitely buying several more to have on-hand. My suggestion is to use five quarts of very hot water. Doesn't have to be boiling - hot water straight from the sink is what I used (which is also safer for kids to do this themselves). I placed one brick into the water and the hot water was absorbed much faster than using room temperature water. The entire brick swelled and began breaking apart in less than five minutes. I poked the brick a few times to slosh the hot water over it and it had completely dissolved in about 13 minutes. I let it sit for a few hours for the water to be completely absorbed as well as to allow the media to return to room temperature. I then added an equal part of perlite and an equal part of vermiculite and thoroughly mixed it. I wish I could post a photo because after mixing it up, I had a five gallon bucket nearly full of potting mix that looked better than any commercial mix I've ever bought. I absolutely recommend this product and will definitely purchase more in the near future.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rather difficult to use... I found this rather difficult to use; I didn't want to use the entire brick, but it's impossible to break; I also had to scrape it a lot to quicken the soaking process and it still took about half an hour. It does make a lot of soil, though, and it's seems like a great price. I used it in a moss terrarium and it holds moisture well; it does filter right into the gravel layer if you pour water on it though.
