Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective tubes--complete waste of time and money I am incredibly disappointed in this product. I switched to this system from the FastPlants system to do a nutrient deficiency lab. My botany class set up their seeds to germinate, which worked great. Today, we attempted to set up our experiments. The last reviewer said about 25% of the tubes leaked--my experience was even worse. I tested 20 tubes, of those 20, THREE did not leak. I attempted to fix the problem by wrapping the bases of the tubes in Parafilm, but this is only slowing the leaks. I don't know if we will be able to continue this experiment. Very frustrating!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective test tubes The concept is great, but the test tubes were defective and about a quarter of them started leaking when they were put into the stand, so all the liquid ran out. This pretty much ruined the science fair project. Rather than measure growth in hydroponic solution, we could only measure time to germination which we had done in separate containers before transferring the cubes into the test tubes. My recommendation is to not use square plastic tubes because the joints were weak and the process of putting them into the stand broke some of them open. I also think that the replacement kit should include some additional functional test tubes as well. If this had been the case, we may have been able to recover the science experiment. I am particularly dissatisfied because this was a very expensive product. It would have been more educational if there were away to compare one growing scenario to another so a student could research why one worked one way versus another. I also think it might have been better to pick a plant type that is easier to measure such as a bean rather than a marigold. Written materials discussing the chemical composition of the nutrient powder would be a nice add on so the student can study it and learn how/why it makes plants grow. Even though I am a parent I have a degree in biology, including graduate work as well as a terminal degree in another science discipline, so feel I'm fully qualified to assess this product. S
