Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works very well, keeps cultures alive for 2+ weeks not days! This is the easiest way to get V. fisceri growing without spending a bunch of time and money deciding on the best medium or buying all the reagents and making some yourself. Easy to use, pours well but word of warning, DOES NOT REHEAT WELL. I strongly suggest that you instead, just use all of it, pour as many plates as you can then seal them and keep them in the fridge as it's nearly impossible to get it to fully liquidate again even with a strong microwave or hours of boiling as per instructions. Amazingly, out of my 5 plates, three of them are still alive and visibly glowing (albeit not much) almost two weeks later! This is just as well because if you wait to order your 2nd bottle then they might well be dead by the time it arrives. Ignore the time it says the shipping will take, they will take at least that long again just to put it in the mail and that's assuming you order it at the beginning at the work week. I was furious with how long it took as my cells were very nearly dead by the time it finally arrived. In conclusion, while this is an awesome product, if I had another choice of company that put a bit more effort into getting things sent within a reasonable period of time then I would honestly not buy from this company again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The instructions for bringing the agar to pouring conditions could have been clearer. I had to bring the water bath to a boil for quite sometime in order to get the agar to come to a full liquid. I hesitated to do this with the first 3 bottle because they were plastic. I finally did the last 2 bottles in boiling water, which still took over 30 minutes. It was time consuming but I am sure I save money by pouring my own plates.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grew the photobacterium as promised Melting the agar on the stovetop required patience, but poured into plates and cultured the V. fischeri just fine.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great but hard to portion out This product grew bacteria very successfully and did not have a lot of problems with contaminants, but it was really difficult to melt it and portion it out to my petri dishes. It was too much to heat at one time. When I tried to get out smaller portions to heat it was difficult to get portions out without exposing the medium to contaminants too long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convenient and sterile. The 500 ml bottle of nutrient agar can easily be used to prepare 18 - 20 100x15 mm petri dishes. Pour in enough to cover the bottom of each dish (and not too much more), and you should end up with at least 18. Contrary to the directions, we had to heat up the container in a water bath for over an hour, and it still had solids in it. In the end, we microwaved it in 10-second increments, agitating it in between, until it was completely liquified. Do not pour into petri dishes until it is completely liquified! Our resulting petri dishes had no contamination.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long-lasting agar I recently restocked our supply of this product after finding that our bottles had expired in Aug 2013. This was discovered after another teacher had used the expired agar and still saw excellent growth from her students' swabs. While I'm sure it isn't guaranteed to provide results past the expiration date, it is nice to know that we do have a long window to use the product. This is a very easy solution to prepare and sets up quickly. We have seen growth within a week without using an incubator. The students are always engaged in learning about bacteria growth after running this experiment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very happy with product used the agar for the classic "does dog drool kill germs" 4th. grade science project. The agar was a little hard to liquify, especially when I had to do it more than once, but we did get it done and it set up well
