Go Deeper Into Physiological Study with Sheep Brains Sheep brains are the perfect specimen to study mammalian brain structure. A sheep brain is similar to a human brain and the structures are easily identified. Standard formalin sheep brains wth dura mater, hypophysis, and cranial nerve roots intact, but still in the cranial case, are shipped in Carosafe(r), Carolina's proprietary shipping and holding fluid. Case has been cracked in several places to make removal easier. Carosafe(r) is an odorless fluid designed to minimize the unpleasant odor of formaldehyde. Packed in pails. Plain: No color injection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Skull plus brain! I teach anatomy and physiology and I use this specimen when I teach skeletal system as well as nervous system. Students are able to see the skull bones, sutures, sinuses, etc. They also experience how well attached the skull is to the brain, as it is difficult to remove. The skulls are "pre-cracked" but some are not broken enough and are very stubborn to remove. The challenge is to get the brain out intact, then we dissect the brain for the next chapter. Students should use appropriate tools and extreme care when removing the skull. It is appropriate for 11-12 grades.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Read the description I ordered what I thought was the whole brain, the picture also confirmed it. What I did not pay attention to was the word "cranial" case, I just saw the case and thought it is what the brains came in. I honestly don't know who would order that, by the time I broke apart the case, the brain was damaged, I would not let my students work with that, they could easily cut themselves by the sharp bones of the casing.
