The Story of Streams Video
This video field trip takes students on an exploration of streams and emphasizes features that students can observe firsthand by visiting local ones. Students are challenged to think about how streams help shape land. They are introduced to the physical features of streams and how they have influenced the history and development of North America. Many National Science Education Standards are addressed including earth and space science (Properties of Earth Materials, Changes in Earth and Sky, and Earth's History); science and technology (Understandings about Science and Technology, and Abilities to Distinguish Between Natural Objects and Objects Made by Humans); science in personal and social perspectives (Types of Resources, Changes in Environments, and Science and Technology in Society); history and nature of science (Science as a Human Endeavor); unifying concepts and processes (Systems, Order, and Organization; Evidence, Models, and Explanation; Constancy, Change, and Measurement; Evolution and Equilibrium; and Form and Function).
