Students learn the techniques of paper and thin-layer chromatography by separating plant pigments in a leaf extract and color indicators in Bogen universal indicator solution. The components of the indicator solution are treated with base and identified from their characteristic color changes. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in pairs.
