- Create a minipond ecosystem using live organisms
- Show the process of succession in a short period of time
- Explore factors that influence succession in a local environment
A Carolina Exclusive! Grades 9–12. Students set up and observe an ecosystem advancing through the stages of ecological succession. They use these observations to track changes and predict the outcome of their ecosystem. As a final activity, students use an area around their school to conduct an investigation on the succession rate of a grass field and test ways to speed up the process.
