The teacher's guide is divided into 3 sections: Part 1, "Using Science Books in the K-3 Classroom"—explains why science books, reading, and writing should be used in inquiry-based science instruction, and how to use the quality science books included in this collection. Part 2, "The K–3 Science Library"—provides a brief description of each science book’s contents, its strengths for teaching science, and specific instructional strategies and activities to use. Part 3, "Standards, Skills, and References"—presents the National Science Education Standards and Standards for the English Language Arts that are met during use of the Science Library. The section also includes a list of articles, books, and Web sites related to the value of reading in the science classroom.
