Module A: In this unit, place value of numbers through the billions is analyzed and described. Students apply properties of numbers to addition and subtraction. Collections, cards, and cubes are used to analyze algorithms for operations on whole numbers. Topics of efficiency and reasonableness as well as estimates are explored.
Module B: Using number lines, cards, and game pieces, students represent fractions, decimals, and numbers less than one in pictures, words, and symbols. Properties of numbers are applied to multiplication and division, including probability, while problem-solving strategies are planned, described, tested, and revised.
