Students prepare protein extracts from samples of their choosing and separate the proteins on either polyacrylamide OR fine sieving agarose gels. Kit contains either 4 precast polyacrylamide gels or 14 g of fine sieving agarose, protein extraction buffer, protein size standards, gel buffer, Coomassie® stain, destain, gloves, and staining trays. Materials are sufficient for running 6 agarose gels or 10 polyacrylamide gels. Additional polyacrylamide gels may be ordered. Equipment needed, but not included: agarose gel electrophoresis equipment or vertical gel electrophoresis equipment to fit 9.5 × 10-cm polyacrylamide gels, gel loading devices, and a boiling water bath.
