A Carolina Exclusive! Grades 9–12. Students analyze the effects of resources on yeast as they explore population growth. Through the use of a guided inquiry technique, students observe yeast growth to study the effects of resource quality on populations. They grow plate cultures and use them to test their own hypotheses on the effects of light intensity, nitrate, glucose, or lactose on yeast population growth.
- Explore concepts of population pyramids and carrying capacity
- Practice microbiology techniques
- Integrate math through logistic and exponential growth concepts
Part of the Inquiries in Science™ series. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in groups.
