Grades 9 - 12. Students explore the process of osmosis. Using a semipermeable model of the cell membrane, students first investigate the rate of osmosis. They then design their own experiment to compare the rate of osmosis between a common beverage and a cell containing a saline solution that is isotonic to human blood plasma.
- Differentiate between solution types
- View cellular transport using apparatus
- Replicate the effect of cells moving between various salinity levels
Part of the Inquiries in Science™ series. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in groups.
