Developed through the Defying Gravity Project by teachers and scientists at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, BonE Voyage to Mars engages your students in the hands-on study of bone physiology and the effects of microgravity on the skeletal system. Students prepare microscope slides from preserved mammal bone specimens and conduct an investigation of the structure of bone cells. They also conduct an overnight body height change study to examine the effects on height due to Earth's gravity. This kit includes an instructional manual complete with lab activities and content information on bone physiology, sufficient materials for a class of up to 32 students, and a CD-ROM (Macintosh®/Windows® compatible) containing a presentation on bone physiology and the effects of microgravity on bone structure.
