Students measure rate of oxygen consumption of various small organisms such as insects, snails, and worms (animals not included) using airtight metabolism chambers. Students calculate metabolic rate in cc O

/kg/hr; measure total gas volume change in the closed environment; and correlations between the size and activity of the organism, temperature of the environment, and the rate of metabolism.
