Excellent for studies in embryology, genetics, physiology, anatomy, morphology, and the amphibian life cycle. The female can be induced to release eggs every 2 to 3 months throughout the year, and the male can be bred every 7 days. The frogs will engage in amplexus in the laboratory. Xenopus develops from egg to a small frog in less than 2-1/2 months and may live up to 10 years in captivity.
