Caring for Your New Tropical Fish
- To ensure your new fish remain at their healthiest, follow the acclimazation procedure below.
Note:
Always use conditioned tap water, treated with the proper water conditioner, or springwater to fill your aquarium. Prior to the arrival of your fish, have ready 1.5 times as much water as your aquarium will hold.
Allow the shipping bag to float in your aquarium for 20 to 30 minutes
Open the bag and discard 1/4 of the shipping water outside of the aquarium; do not allow any of it to contaminate your aquarium
Replace the shipping water with aquarium water and wait 15 minutes. Again remove 1/4 of the shipping water and replace it with aquarium water
Wait 15 minutes and repeat step 3
After another 15 minutes, carefully remove the fish with a net and place them in the tank
Wait another 15 minutes, and then carefully net the fish and transfer them to the aquarium

Tropical fish such as bettas, gouramis, chinese algae eaters, guppies, plecostomus, and algae-eating shrimp are excellent choices for the classroom aquarium. All of our tropical species are hand-selected for size and health, so you can enjoy them for years to come. Aquaria for these fish require a heater to maintain proper water temperature (75 to 80°F).
