Blood agars improve the growth of fastidious (picky) microbes and determine hemolytic reactions. These agars should be used at the college and university level only.
If your experiment requires blood agar, substitute the same type of agar without blood. This substitution helps ensure safety in your lab, and lessens the chance of fastidious pathogen growth.
All of our prepared media plates are carefully evaluated to verify their ability to support the characteristic growth of appropriate organisms and are thoroughly tested for sterility. When you receive your plates, refrigerate them immediately between 2 and 8° C.
