Hosta plants are propagated by tissue culture using the ovary as the explant source. The instructor must supply inflorescences from a healthy hosta plant. Materials needed but not included in this kit are 500 mL sterile water, household bleach, liquid detergent, 70% alcohol, sterile paper towels, 100-mL graduated cylinder, and Parafilm® or tape. Callus, shoots, and roots are induced and horticubes are used to establish young plants outside of culture. The Classroom Kit is designed for a class of 30 students; the Demonstration Kit is for 1 to 2 students. With instructions. Kit contains coupon for prepaid delivery of perishable materials.
