The teacher’s manual discusses different media, the pros and cons of liquid versus solid media, and the different gelling agents. The laboratory portion allows students to work with different types of gelling agents and liquid media to determine which promotes better growth for carrot callus and banana plantlets. The instructor must supply 100-mL graduated cylinders, cups or jars, waste container, 70% ethanol, liquid detergent, household bleach, spray bottles, and large carrots.
