Determination of the Molecular Weight of an Acid AP Chemistry Kit
Determination of the Molecular Weight of an Acid AP Chemistry Kit
Meets AP® Chemistry topics 6 and 7.
This kit provides an interesting twist on a common experiment. Students standardize a solution of strong base using a weak acid and titrate a polyprotic acid to determine its molecular weight.
The polyprotic acid changes the titration’s stoichiometry as compared to the usual experiment involving a monoprotic acid. Students must account for the difference in their calculations. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in pairs.
