Spectroscopy and the Method of Continuous Variation AP Chemistry Kit
Spectroscopy and the Method of Continuous Variation AP Chemistry Kit
Meets AP® Chemistry Topic 17.
Students determine the formula of a complex ion that absorbs visible light and use a calibration curve they generate to determine the concentration of an unknown complex ion solution. The experiment introduces students to the rudiments of spectroscopy such as the Beer-Lambert law, the Method of Continuous Variation, and how to use a spectrophotometer. In addition, students gain experience using volumetric glassware. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in pairs.
