- Distinguish between different types of mixtures
- Determine the solubility curve of a substance
- Understand the difference between unsaturated, saturated and supersaturated solutions
Grades 9–12. Students explore types of mixtures and the factors that affect solubility. In the first activity, students investigate the effects of pressure and temperature on the solubility of a gas in a liquid, identify different types of mixtures, and experiment with miscible and immiscible liquids.
After determining the solubility curve of a substance, students apply what they’ve learned and design reusable hand warmers.
Part of the Inquiries in Science™ series. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in groups of 3.
