Grades 9–12. Students explore the chemistry of carbon by using a variety of modeling methods to build different classes of organic compounds. Based on the models created, they learn about molecular shape, stereochemistry, isomerism, and how to identify and name different classes of organic compounds. Finally, students investigate the physical and chemical characteristics of recycled plastics and design their own plastics to serve specific purposes.
