Investigate the diversity of pond microorganisms with this unique dried mixture; just add springwater to bring it to life! The mixture contains a variety of materials and nutrients to support microorganism growth and food chains.

Your students can observe bacteria and other single-celled organisms within 24 hours after adding water; larger microinvertebrates will appear within a week.

Mix includes bacteria, protozoa, algae, rotifers, ostracods, and others. Comes with instructions and illustrations of some of the more commonly seen organisms. Safely stores for years in dried form without special handling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have used this mix for years! Always a hit with students in biology and ecology.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect food for daphnia! I recently started farming daphnia for my freshwater fish. Daphnia provide fish with the natural food and hunting skills they already have. Problem is, if you raise daphnia on a limited food source, they dont provide the fish with the nutrients they require. This product is a perfect food source for any filter feeders.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy, quick production of single-celled organisms You can start to see large amounts of single celled organisms within a few weeks. Be sure to use actual pond water (or aquarium water in my case.) Also be sure to allow for a large surface area for oxygen to dissolve in the water. Do not cap the container or it will start to stink like a swamp. The solution is very dominant on paramecium, and I would like to see a larger variety of single celle dorganisms, but I'm not a population ecologist so perhaps it is just succession.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed I have always had good luck with items ordered through Carolina Biological. Despite the cost of Pond Mystery Mix (over $30 with overnight shipping) and some "iffy" reviews I decided to order. We mixed it up according to the directions and tested after one week. Nothing. We tested again after 2 weeks. Nothing. The directions were minimal, adding to my belief that it would work and be easy. After 2 weeks, I had lots of questions about what I might have done wrong, such as did I add too much mystery mix? (I assumed I was to dump it all in), or is the indoor grow light supposed to improve results or will sunlight through a window work? Should I have grown it outdoors like a "real" pond instead of in the house? It would have been nice if they had included some troubleshooting information in the instructions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Value The culture maintained it's self for over a year and went through a number of population booms as time went on. Free swimmers and bottom dwellers. We are doing it again this year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I have used this before and loved it but this time it did not work. I The pond water turned black in about 1 week and smelled so bad I had to get rid of it. I have used it before and it was great but this time it was awful.
