Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't always last long I have heard in the past that Paramecium don't last long. The first 5 times I ordered them, the Paramecium lasted several weeks. The jars arrived with a reasonable amount of organisms for the volume and food. This last batch I got was teeming with Paramecium. When they arrived last week, they were very active. By Tuesday, there were few left and they are moving sluggishly. I aerate them most weekdays but they still are barely making it a week. I have had to put out prepared slides of the organism for my labs later in the week to make sure my students can see the organism. It's more fun when they are zipping all over and the students have to try to focus on them before the Paramecium vanish from the field of view (even using Protoslo).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from rotifer-rich, Stentor-poor The last two times we have purchased Stentor from your company (last August and this past week), the culture has been nearly (August) or completely (last week) overrun by rotifers. I notice another reviewer had the same issue -- not good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from too many Rotifer contaminants the Stentor cultures were overgrown with Rotifers within days; such a huge cell can easily be isolated and cultured in a more pure fashion; I had to do this and it required much time

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for novice microscope users Stentor are great for students who are just learning to locate organisms under the compound microscope. Again this year, every student was successful in locating them and getting them focused under high magnification. Carolina shipped viable organisms, sending them with a warm-pack here in January. Stentor are easy to locate when students pick up a small piece of green debris in the jar. Most are attached by their stalk to debris. When Under medium and high magnification, students see active cilia around Stentor's rim. Stentor will also "jerk" back, demonstrating some reflexive response to the environment. If you are hesitant to order living microbes because you aren't great at locating them yourself, Stentor is an excellent "starter" organism.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent source for membrane lab! Very stable, easy to maintain. Culture lives for quite some time with little, if any, care. Great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great specimen These specimens were very engaging for our students. We could see them "eating" and also searching for new places to anchor so, although they are usually sessile, the students could see how they "move" and eat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great specimen The vial was teaming with life. The description says it is good for a class of 30, but it went well beyond that.
