Your class might have trouble believing it, but this ferocious-looking creature is actually quite shy. When disturbed, it hisses loudly by forcefully expelling air through its spiracles. Once it becomes accustomed to being handled, it no longer hisses. However, if you leave it alone for a few weeks, it begins to hiss again. Adult. Pack of 3.

Your class might have trouble believing it, but this ferocious-looking creature is actually quite shy—it can even be handled. This insect is originally from the island of Madagascar. When disturbed, it hisses loudly by forcefully expelling air through its spiracles. Its large carapace has false eyespot protrusions that give the roach its fierce appearance. Once it becomes accustomed to being handled, it no longer hisses. However, if you leave it alone for a few weeks, it begins to hiss again. Adult. Pack of 3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good I bought these to give company to the lone cockroach I had in my tank. So far, they seem to be thriving, though I think one of them, or the lone resident, died soon after (about 2 weeks later).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality of specimen I ordered three hissing cockroaches to add as company to my sons' existing pet cockroach. They arrived on time, in very humane packaging (ice pack to regulate temp, food, cover to hide, etc.). And they were HUGE... two to three time the size of the one we've had for almost a year! The antennae were intact, they were active, and they had excellent coloring. Customer service was very polite when I called to confirm the delivery date, and I was kept updated ever step of the way. This was my first order and I was very impressed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice roaches They arrived alive; not surprising because they are difficult to kill. As long as you keep them fed (I use dog food) and watered, they will thrive and produce generation after generation of hissing cockroaches (make sure your container has relatively small screening so the newborns don't escape). They do tend to hide during the day, so don't expect to observe much cockroach behavior, at least not with the lights on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these bugs! We love our hissers! They are fun to observe and hold. Because their egg sacks remain inside their bodies, they appear to have a live birth when the eggs hatch -- something my kids and I were fascinated by! Carolina Biological Company will always be my preferred provider of bugs and scientific resources - our hissers are more than healthy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall excellent - babies free of charge (sometimes) I've ordered ~ 10 packs of these roaches. They always arrive in good condition (read: alive and well). Do be aware that the females will sometimes give live birth in transit, so be on the lookout for lots of extra little nymphs running around. For me this is a plus - I wanted more roaches anyway - but maybe not everyone does. Do also be aware that these roaches breed faster than rabbits, so separate the M/F if you don't want to deal with 100+ new roaches w/ in a few weeks (each egg sack contains about 30-40 nymphs). They are voracious, so be sure to feed them. I also keep an IR light on them to keep the temp up. That makes them more active.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most Awesome Purchase The cockroaches are extremely cool. The shipping was excellent and it was really fun to open a container that looked like around container of ice cream to find the roaches. All of the roaches survived and are doing very well. Plus, they are HUGE! Great gift and very easy care . Would definitely buy these again.
