Rated 5 out of 5 by from Healthy Slime Mold I ordered this for my science experiment after I was unable to grow the slime mold from the dried paper samples. This worked fantastically well. It is still alive after three weeks of just putting a piece of it into a new petri dish and feeding it. Overall a great plate, I understand shipping is expensive, but that would be my only complaint!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product did not meet expectations Even though I followed the directions exactly, none of my sclerotium papers managed to enter the plasmodial stage. As the directions instructed, I placed the sclerotium papers face down onto a barely damp filter paper inside of a container and placed them in a dark closet. The instructions that were included with the product stated that the samples would re-enter its active stage in 8-16 hours; however even after at least a week of care and observation, none of the samples entered the plasmodial state. I had very high hopes for this product and for Carolina Biological as my teacher had recommended this company for great service. But I'm very sad to say that I was let down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Healthy sent to the Netherlands Happy and healthy Physarum polycephalum! I transfer them to other agar plates after 5 days and didn't put them in incubation. Because they grow quickly enough! However I had to wait long until Carolina responded to my order. After the first reaction it went very quickly I used them for my graduation project, thank you Carolina!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better slime mold than others We've tried other companies' Physarum, and Carolina seems the best...lasts longer, looks healthier. You need to keep it covered, out of direct light. Usually have to throw it out after 2 weeks because of overgrowth. The only difficulty we have in the teaching lab is that students must view it on a scope through the Petri dish which gathers a lot of condensation that blocks the view of the slime mold. The alternative is to have students open the plate, but then it would probably be a mess and not last as long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use and Saves Time I purchase this product every semester because it works well as a great starter culture. The cultures are easy to maintain as long as the oats or agar does not get contaminated with Rhizopus or other fungi. Carolina ships the starter plates sealed so this prevents them from growing out of petri dishes during the shipment process, which is something I appreciate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All pieces grew excellent product. nice big pieces, can be cut up to make more. All grew nicely, comes with oats for food. This is a very easy organism to use in the classroom, especially for student led investigations. You can even make your slime mold go dormant (create a sclerotia) to cut up and use another time.
