In the 16th century Galileo Galilei discovered the principle that drives this unique thermometer. As a liquid's temperature increases, its buoyancy decreases. These attractive thermometers are sealed, rugged, high-quality glass tubes. Each handmade floater is massed to within 0.002 g to allow an accuracy of ±0.1° F. Temperature is read by noting the tag on the lowest of the floating temperature floaters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and simple I bought this product as a gift for my father. I was not disappointed. It is beautifully made and very simple to use and makes a great conversation piece or decorative addition. I only had it in my home a few days so I can't really speak to it's accuracy, but it seemed to be working well while it was here.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great conversation piece, not much else... I bought this product and I perhaps had loftier goals than I should have. It's a very nice looking piece and it works fine. I intended for my 6th grade students to be as excited about it as I was, but they just weren't. I taught them how to use it, and there was excitement for about two days. After that, interest waned. It still makes a nice conversation piece in the classroom, but it was a little expensive for just being a conversation piece.
