Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dazzling bacteria The bacteria grew nicely and glowed in the dark as promised. The science behind this bacteria's glow is fascinating. They use "quorum sensing" within Hawaiian bobtail squid before emitting their glow. This science story gets better. I recommend looking up the information by Bonnie Bassler of Princeton about quorum sensing. For better value when ordering this live organism that apparently requires pricey shipping, it be appreciated if an extra photobacterium agar plate were shipped with the living agar plate for easy allowance of passing the bacteria to a new plate for continued growth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product exceeded expectations The science fair project my son wanted to do required this product, however though his foot dragging turned it into a rather frantic affair, Carolina was amazingly responsive and helpful. We live on the west coast and the bacteria arrived safely within a day and a half. The Instructions are written well enough that even we, complete novices, understood and were able to follow along easily. The bacteria was glowing brightly when unpackaged. Five days and two separate subcultures later, they are if anything glowing even more brightly. The broom closet is becoming a little crowded with glowing petri dishes that will hopefully be soon moving on to his science teacher's domain. Extra agar is the expensive part as you don't get much, I was forced to figure out making more on my own which was slightly stressful though I appear to have succeeded without an autoclave or a pressure cooker. Other than that I have nothing but praise.
