GelGreen™ is a stable, low toxicity stain with sensitivity comparable to ethidium bromide and is non-mutagenic by Ames test. GelGreen's main UV absorption peak is between 250 nm and 300 nm, but it also absorbs well at 500 nm. Thus, DNA stained with GelGreen™ can be visualized using a 254 nm UV transilluminator or equipment such as a Dark Reader™, Visi-Blue™, or a 488 nm laser-based scanner. The stain comes in a 150-µl tube of 10,000x solution.

Stain comes in a 150-µl tube of 10,000x solution. Suggested use is as a 3x solution for post-electrophoresis staining of double- or single-stranded DNA and RNA in agarose gels. The stain can also be used at 1x concentration incorporated into the gel, but this may affect DNA band mobility. Not recommended for use with acrylamide gels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome results Works as well as ethidium bromide, but safe enough for a high school lab. I use it in the gel to get immediate results and it works very well. You need a UV light box with an orange shield or orange goggles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than CarolinaBlu This stain is great for classroom use. Gels can be made with the stain and are ready to image the instant electrophoresis is done. Bands are sharp and bright. A blue light transilluminator works just as well as a UV transilluminator. You can make blue light transiluminators much cheaper than buying UV tranilluminators. There are even some available out there to put together yourself.
