During seasons with very low or high temperature fluctuations, we reserve the right to hold shipments to ensure the health of our organisms. This may briefly delay shipments during those periods. Carolina makes raising and studying painted lady butterflies easy with our 5-larvae culture cup. We ship larvae in a clear, self-contained 8-oz culture cup so children can easily observe caterpillar development. There is no food to mix and nothing to set up. Caterpillars simply eat the medium supplied in the culture cup until they form a chrysalis. Children then hang up the chrysalises in the habitat. After 7-10 days, the adult butterflies will emerge hungry. Make sure you provide sugar water for the adults to eat.

Shipping and handling is included with this price. Click Add to Cart to calculate your 50% off promotional savings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much fun! We received the butterfly larva in the mail. We followed the directions and it was a success. It was a blast watching the larva grow into caterpillars, then spin their cocoons, then hatch into butterflies. I have never seen this process before. We will be ordering again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing experience! We ended up getting 6 instead of 5 caterpillars! They shipped quickly! Wee didn't know the mailman would just leave them in the mailbox, we thought they would get brought to the door. Instructions were simple, but I wish one step would have mentioned the sticky webbing the caterpillars create and that you should clear it from the chrysalis when moving them into the net. It was amazing how fast the caterpillars grew, even in half a day! We had 5 beautiful butterflies, and one sad casualtiy because the sticky webbing kept our first one from being able to expand his wings. Amazing experience, and my daughter was sad to see them go. Such a fun experience, we will be doing this again!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Learning fun! I bought two of these. One for at home and one for my son's kindergarten class! The kids enjoyed watching all the different stages of life a butterfly goes through and they all emerged from the cocoons just in time for kindergarten graduation! My son and his class really enjoyed it. His teacher was also very thankful for the gift as it was given just as they were studying butterflies! I highly recommend getting this either for your family, daycare, or classroom! :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 5 outta 6 We had 5 out of 6 survivors. One of them got caught up in it's chrysalis because there were some silk strands connected to the chrysalis and I didn't realize that you should carefully remove them before the butterflies emerge. I do wish it had said that in the little trifold color instruction manual, I only found that out when I googled it after the fact. But other than that, what a cool experience!
