During seasons with very low or high temperature fluctuations, we reserve the right to hold shipments to ensure the health of our organisms. This may briefly delay shipments during those periods. Carolina makes raising and studying painted lady butterflies easy with our 5-larvae culture cup. We ship larvae in a clear, self-contained 8-oz culture cup so children can easily observe caterpillar development. There is no food to mix and nothing to set up. Caterpillars simply eat the medium supplied in the culture cup until they form a chrysalis. Children then hang up the chrysalises in the habitat. After 7-10 days, the adult butterflies will emerge hungry. Make sure you provide sugar water for the adults to eat.

Shipping and handling is included with this price. Click Add to Cart to calculate your 50% off promotional savings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful educational experience for my grandson! I bought this for my 4 year old grandson who lives in the Milwaukee area last year as well and when he went anywhere and happened to see painted ladies, even months later, he knew they were his:) he’s doing it again this year and is so interested watching the larvae eat and develop their chrysalis which is the state they’re in now. He (we) can’t wait for the butterflies!! Great educational activity! I taught Head Start for 27 years and we also made this a priority so I knew my grandson would learn from it as well. One of his favorite books is Eric Charles The Very Hungry Caterpillar, although I’m not sure why he used cocoons for developing butterflies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful butterflies! Our little caterpillars arrived quickly and safely. They were very healthy and all grew big and strong......and soon enough they each transformed into a chrysalis. We were very happy that from every chrysalis emerged a beautiful butterfly, although not every one had perfectly formed wings. We had a wonderful experience raising butterflies from this company and we highly recommend this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun learning experience for my 5yo son. I bought this, a second time since my 5 year old understands their cycle more. He loved watching each step of the process. We actually had all 6 caterpillars. Crysislis and all turn into butterflys, but sadly 2 did not make it (note sure why). We released the other 4 and he even out one on his finger.
