These Carolina® butterfly kits make keeping live butterflies simple, fun, and affordable. Each kit comes with everything you need to raise painted lady butterflies from larvae to adults - including our improved freestanding mesh Butterfly Sanctuary. It's simple to set up, easy to clean, great for viewing, and collapses for convenient storage.

You can also enhance your butterfly classroom experience with the V-Scope Explorer: Butterfly Life Cycle Interactive Activity (item #522464). Each kit includes 1 year of FREE single-teacher license access to butterfly videos and images that can be used with interactive whiteboards and teacher presentation stations.

The Demo Kit contains 10 larvae and enough food to last from metamorphosis to chrysalis. Also includes butterfly sanctuary, instruction book, cotton wick, and foam rubber flower. The Classroom Kit allows students to work hands-on with living butterflies. From a culture cup that contains 33 larvae and food, each student (or pair of students) transfers a larva and food to its own culture vessel, creating an individual chamber for observation. The Classroom Kit Refill includes 33 to 35 larvae, culture medium, 33 culture vessels with lids, filter paper, and 2 spatulas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Butterflies Kit and Owl Pellets Kit I teach a Kinder., 1st grade, 2nd grade class. One of my 1st graders asked if we could dissect owl pellets after reading a non-fiction story about owls. I ordered the kit with some hesitation, because my students are so young. They loved it and learned a great deal! After that success, I ordered the Butterfly kit with the Mallow plant. They are learning so much and so engaged!! When I learned that our school site has money to spend on supplementary curriculum, I made a list of requests for various science kits for next year. I am so excited! Next year's science projects will be wonderful!! Susan

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Science project I teach special needs students and this was their first experience. The enjoyed raising thier caterpillars. They were estatic about seeing their caterpillars turn to butterflies. Almost every one of them survived and we have a real butterfly house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME I purchased this at the end of the year, and I was unsure if I had enough school days for the growth cycle. I called customer service and they were INCREDIBLY helpful. They knew the answer to all my questions, and I ultimately had just enough time. I ordered the kit that should have had around 30 caterpillars, (it arrived early!) but we received nearly double that!!! I figured we would lose a lot (and that's why we received so many), but pretty much all of them formed cocoons and emerged. My kids loved this. Will be ordering again next year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wonderful caterpillars I have done these many times in kindergarten but now am using them in my garden club. I received many more caterpillars than i expected which , as wonderful as that is, means I probably do not have enough food for the extras. Hopefully some of the extras will survive to chrysalis. I know that most of the others will survive - great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not enough food for caterpillars I liked this kit a lot but there were too many caterpillars for the amount of food sent. Make sure you order extra food and extra cups. The kids felt bad that some caterpillars weren't going to be used because there wasn't enough food. So I tried to improvise by adding sugar solution to the original mix and used other cups I had, but without the lids, too much moisture is lost (I rubberbanded some toilet paper on top). But the ones that did survive made good pupas and are now emerging.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well I bought this kit to share with my students the compete butterfly life cycle. I see all k through 5th grade students. I purchased the eggs and the larvae. The eggs hatched within the first two days so only a small percentage of the students were able to see this part of the life cycle. Almost all the larvae went into the chrysalis stage and we did have a couple malformed butterflies. All in all I would do this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Way to Learn Life Cycle of a Butterfly Our second grade classes love learning about the life cycle of the butterfly with these kits. We have been ordering them for years and will continue to do so.
